Study the information in the SNAPSHOT at left. Why do you think teaching, medicine,business and engineering were the top four career choices for 1998? What conclusions about gender preferences can you draw based on the percentages shown? Why do you think males show a significantly stronger interest in engineering and computer hardware and software development than females do? Why do you suppose females prefer careers in teaching and medicine? Look in USA TODAY for articles related to the top four careers, and share them with your class.
Ask your classmates which of the top four careers they would prefer, and justify their choices. Then construct a SNAPSHOT like the one at left. Evaluate your results, and compare them to those shown in the USA TODAY SNAPSHOT.
