Buying a franchise
A business franchise exists when a manufacturer or corporation authorizes several different business persons to sell its products. The franchisee is the person who runs one or more units of a business chain, such as a restaurant or clothing store.
What do the figures in the SNAPSHOT tell you about the start up costs of owning your own franchise? What type of business do you think you could open for around $50,000? 150,000? $300,000? What is the basis for your reasoning?
If you could choose a franchise to open up in your hometown, which one would it be? Why? Does another one of those chains already exist? A similar one? Or, would it be unique to your city? What are the advantages and disadvantages of opening a new franchise in each of the three scenarios?
