Ben (as in Franklin) is the host of this outstanding site hosted by the US Government Printing Office. The site has sections for grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 with the language adjusted for each group (however, the overall graphics will appeal more to elementary students than to high school). There is a good general reference section on the government along with a page for each state. Students can look up their members of Congress and send an email to them. The site also has a good overview of the three branches of government, how laws are made, and a section of games and activities. |

Cyber Newseum |
| Description: |
The Newseum, the only museum in the world dedicated to the history and role of news gathering organizations, used to be a physical place and soon will be again. The Newseum closed in March, 2002 and is building a new space due to open in 2006 in Washington, DC. In the meantime, this site has developed into an outstanding online replacement. There are currently over twenty different exhibits covering everything from the war in Iraq to the presidential campaign. One of the best is the National Geographic's display of the work of Women Photographers. Not only are the pictures great but you can also listen to narrations of the pictures by the photographers themselves. |

Tammy Geiger- Travelin' TED |
| Description: |
The Chronicles of Travelin' Ted is a website that follows the adventures of Travelin' Ted (a fuzzy teddy bear) as he travels from state to state. The Chronicles of Travelin' Ted details Ted's trips by posting a fact page about each state he has visited, then a journal page which shows pictures of Ted doing neat things in each state and posts his weeklong journal of his stay in each state.
This site offers children the opportunity to increase interest in the study of geography;
provides teachers the opportunity to teach skills from their own curriculum in an exciting and engaging thematic format;
enables children to recognize that there are kids just like them in our country, also to recognize the differences among us and establish tolerance. The Travelin' Ted website also offers information about the states of our country/ countries of the world. The children can develop the pride of publishing their own work, art, poetry, etc. about Ted's adventure onto a site that many people access each day.

Ms.Chien.com |
| Description: |
MsChien.com has been "in business" for the past 2 years. It is used in multiple ways; students can check for updates on assignments and use the references section for guided research. There is a special page for parents to check out the latest in science class, school important dates, and extra readings about supporting parents at home in science. In addition, there is a form for parents who needs to email "on the spot". The site is also used as a portal (research links, template downloads) for online projects such as the development of the Water Quality Project published on Thirteen's Students Take http://www.thirteen.org/edonline/studentstake/water/index.html and the Herbarium Project. Student work is periodically published as well.
Most importantly, part to this online classroom is the high amount of email that the parents and teacher exchange. Communication is quick and easy, especially for working parents in NYC. I always mass email parents about the latest assignment, trip information, and class announcements even before the students know! Parents really appreciate the open communication, and as a result, the amount of family involvement in science class is extremely high. I receive over 40% parent attendance during parent-teachers night. Parents who hardly touch the computer had train themselves, and their kids, to web surf and email just so that they are "on track".
Mschien.com is a tool that definitely moves kids into current web technology communication and makes them become active young scientists.
